Firstly I would just like to thankyou all for taking the time to visit my blog.

My name is Sam and I have a passion for live music. Since my very first gig (which was to see Kate Nash at the Concorde 2 in Brighton) I have been bitten by the bug that has a thirst for live music. I have attended alot gigs some which have been big names and some that have been artists breaking through.

Capturing the experience of a live gig is something I enjoy doing. I’m an Amatuer Independent Music Reviewer who takes pleasure in writing up reviews of gigs and recommending artists to other people. Planet Music Reviews took shape in January 2009 but I was hosting it using a free Blogspot account. Two months later I decided to migrate over to WordPress because I really liked the way you could lay out your page. The thought of creating this blog came from a discussion with Megan White (from the band Thomas Tantrum) after the instore at Puregroove. She suggested to me to review gigs as I had witnessed many different acts in 2008.

Why did I chose the name Planet Music Reviews? For starters that name is obscure. If I was to type in Planet Music my site wouldn’t appear in the top 10 when searched on Google. Planet Music was actually a username of mine years before I decided to start this blog. The Reviews part opens up the option if I want to review other aspects in media.

My dream job would involve reviewing bands for a living and witnessing brand new acts who I think have what it takes to break through. That is the main reason I started the Ones To Watch and In The Spotlight series. These focus on bands who have raw talent and everyone should listen to. The differences between them are Ones To Watch is for an artist/band who has just started out and has a record deal while In The Spotlight is for artists/ bands who are unsigned or they are in the early foundations of their career.

If you want to recommend a band to me or if you want me to review a CD/ EP contact me at planetmusicreviews@hotmail.co.uk

    Hey there,
I like what you’re doing… cool hobby def. I just suck at writing about concerts so I just go there.. hehe!
I think it’s time for investment for you… would make sense to get a camera with a better mic… I think you’d deserve one. 😉

    Hi Sam,
you are really a big gig’o holic and your review blog is absolutely great. Living in London gives you the chance to witness stars and starlets as they are “born” (at least if they come from the UK). Attending concerts of artists before they are climbing to the top must be something thrilling. Living in “continental Europe” this is not so easy for me, but sometime it happened.
As I will be in London (probably for about one week) in March to attend the gig of Paloma Faith at SBE (if only they send me over the ticket…), could you pls get back to me via PM in order to recommend me a couple of other venues or gigs I could attend during my stay ? Unfortunately I couldn’t find a way to PM you directly. TIA, Gerhard from Austria.

    Hey there,
you’re so lucky to go see so many gigs, i’m really jealous.
though your reviews are generally, one bit of advice i’d offer would to be a bit more varied in your vocabulary. you often describe lyrics as ‘catchy’ or ‘upbeat’etc, and i think a bit of variation might help make your reviews even better!

    Still all good though!
