Alice Gold @ The Old Queens Head 15th September 2011

This stripped down set by Alice Gold was wonderful even though a broken guitar string did hinder the set. The set kicked off with Conversations Of Love. This was upbeat and was delivered to perfection. Just seeing Alice perform by herself with a guitar was a real treat. ” I’m Alice Gold, I’m going to play you some songs” she went onto say before launching into How Long Have These Streets Been Empty?. This upbeat song had catchy lyrics which sounded wonderful. “One string down, but we’re going to carry on anyway” Alice went onto say in regards to the broken string. The wonderful And You’ll Be There followed on. This is the only ballad on the album and it was delivered to perfection . The mellowing chorus was my favourite part of this song. The second single from Seven Rainbows was next and this being Cry Cry Cry. This pop song was really upbeat and infectious. The lyrics were straight and simple plus it was wonderful at the same time. Alice did pause during the song and this was down to the broken string. Despite all that the song went down well with the audience. “This is Seasons Change” Gold said before launching into that very song. Seasons Change oozed energy and was delivered to perfection.

OVERALL: The one annoying thing about free gigs is the fact people decide to talk all the way through the set. Still Alice was amazing as always and she pulled it off despite her predicament. As for the support acts Kerrigan and Violet they were both amazing. Violet are definately a band you have to keep tabs on.
