16th May 2011 sees the anticipated debut release from five piece Folk band Hhymn. In The Depths will be released on Denizen Recordings and I must admit it is a fantastic debut effort. Back in 2008 Ed Bannard and Simon Richie went on to create Hhymn. To start off with this Nottingham based band started life as a duo. They then recruited long-term friend Mike Wynne on drums, Amy Helliwell on glockenspiel, organ and trumpet and Will Jeffrey on bass to complete this amazing band.
Hhymn have released two singles Land Of Souls and These Hands which resulted in support from 6Music. A third single Girl Of Mine is set to be released on 15th May. A series of festival appearances and gigs soon followed, being topped off by a breathtaking performance at Mat Horne’s sell-out club night ‘Session’ in London. It’s now been a year since Hhymn released Land Of Souls and now they’re ready to unleash In The Depths – a record with enough gravity to pull all but the heaviest of hearts. This album is filled with songs that roam, resolve and enlighten, communicating wisdom that can only be discovered through enduring life’s more meaningful callings, and does so with great compassion and conviction.

OVERALL: This album is fantastic there is not a single bad track. I guess this could be down to the fact I love Folk music and this album hits the spot. I must say that the opening two tracks These Hands and Not Before I Go stand out for me as there is a chilled out vibe. Other than those 2 tracks the remaing 8 are pure folk. So go give this band a listen to you won’t be disappointed. Any fan of folk music would love this Nottingham based band.
