Early this year I saw a fantastic band called Luna Belle. This 4 piece band supported Sleigh Bells at the relaunch of Blue Flowers in Chiswick. I then saw them a further two times at The Stag’s Head and the HalfMoon in Putney. I really enjoyed the pop music that they sang. There may only be two songs which are Just Saying and Acid Book on the official Myspace page but there are plenty more crackers that they perform live. A favourite of mine has to be Other Side Of Blue. On main vocals is Katherine Joyce and each song sounds fantastic in there own way. Even though the band have been gigging here and there on the releasing music front it has all gone quiet which is ashame. A one off vinyl release on Chess Club Records never materialised. The band in fact have three live dates coming up all taking place within London (Dates are listed below)
Earlier this year Katherine answered some questions for Planet Music Reviews:
Tell me a little about the bands history?
Well, it started off as my solo project, but in the past i had been in bands and that suited me better, so i formed the band at the beginning of this year and we have all been working really hard rehearsing and writing. We all met each other through friends.
Who would you say your influences are?
My personal influences growing up were David Bowie, Lou Reed, Led Zeppelin, due to my father, but i suppose you could say we sound like a mix between The Sundays, The Smiths and The Cardigans, but those influences although flattering comparisons weren’t really thought of during writing the songs, my song writing process comes out very sub-consciencely, i’ve heard more of those bands now than when i started over 2 years ago.
All in all Luna Belle are a highly talented band whom I predict big things for. They are most definately someone to watch out for in 2011.
The band are playing:
19th December 2010 – Old Queen’s Head
6th January 2011 – The Lock Tavern
25th January 2011 – The Slaughtered Lamb
