Joe Steer is the voice behind Broadcast 2000. He started writing songs in his early teens in Devon. I have been a fan of the music for a while but not seen the band live. There are some dates in February and I plan to attend the instore at Pure Groove.
Well during gigs Joe is joined by a live band who consist of:
Tom Andrews, Chris Banner, Pedro Del Battenberg, Louise Golbey, Kelly Underdown, Jade Brightwell and Alex Eichenberger.
The music does have a folk feel and the debut album Broadcast 2000 finally hits the shelves on 15th February.
Well Joe was so kind enough to participate in answering the Ten Questions:
Q 01. What was your first musical instrument and where did you get it?
A 1/4 size ‘cello, my parents bought it for me when I was a wee boy.
Q 02. What was your favourite gig you have headlined or supported at?
Hmm, we’ve done some good ones in Europe… ‘Les 3 Elephants’ festival in France was marvellous so let’s say that one.
Q 03. If you were to collaborate with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?
Simon Jeffes of Penguin Cafe Orchestra who sadly died a few years ago. I’ve taken a lot of influence from his music and from what I can tell he was a thorough gent.
Q 04. Favourite song to sing live and why?
Hmmm, that kind of depends on what mood I’m in..I’ll say Rouse Your Bones for now.
Q 05. Favourite music venue and why?
There’s a large venue in Berlin called Tempodrom shaped like a giant tent. I saw Sigur Ros there a while ago, it was great.
Q 06. Where do you get your inspiration from when writing songs?
Happenings in my fairly mundane but happy life. Hopefully people can relate my thoughts to their own fairly mundane but happy lives.
Q 07. Describe your music in 3 words?
Tinkle, pluck, thwack.
Q 08. What tips do you offer to any one wanting to become a singer or start a band?
Work very hard at it, keep chipping away and you might get somewhere. I’m still chipping away.
Q 09. Who is your favourite singer or band at the moment?
Q 10. Goals for the year?
To keep on scraping a living from what’s left of the music industry.
