The first artist to contribute in the Ten Questions With series in 2010 is the highly talented Victoria Wijeratne who is the sole member of Ghosts You Echo.
I had previously saw Victoria at The Good Ship when she opened up for Adelaide’s Cape. Now I really liked the music that she sung. Victoria impressed me so much I would like to hear more material again and see her live.
Here are the questions and Victoria’s answers:
Q 01. What was your first musical instrument and where did you get it?:
technically it was the recorder!, but my first proper instrument was the guitar (cliche!) and got it in a music shop in harrow.
Q 02. What was your favourite gig you have headlined or supported at?
i did a gig at The Social in september last year, really nice bar and i got free lunch and drinks!, was fortunate to meet people from heavenly records there too who were very lovely
Q 03. If you were to collaborate with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?
thats really tough to pick, at the moment it would have to be Karin Dreijer Andersson of fever ray, i saw her live at the hmv forum a while ago and it was so amazing and intense, ive read several interviews and she says image shouldn’t really get in the way of communicating your music to people, it should be more of a visual sense and how you actually see the music, i jus have a lot of respect for her
Q 04. Favourite song to sing live and why?
Great Distances, i feel its my most personal and epic song
Q 05. Favourite music venue and why?
to watch gigs its definetely the union chapel, the place has a magical atmosphere, to play it would have to be The Bedford, its a hidden gem for the london music scene and its shaped like a globe theatre
Q 06. Where do you get your inspiration from when writing songs?
from personal experiences in my life, moments that have been overwhelming
Q 07. Describe your music in 3 words?
personal, layered, honest
Q 08. What tips do you offer to any one wanting to become a singer or start a band?
rehearse as much as possible, gig as much as possible, it always a good outlet to try out your new songs
Q 09. Who is your favourite singer or band at the moment?
Q 10. Goals for the year?
to record more in a proper studio and no home recording, to hopefully get alot more attention from people at gigs
I will just like to thank Victoria for sparing the time to contribute
