#12. Ten Questions With… Minus IQ

I last saw Minus IQ last year when they were playing at The Purple Turtle in Camden. They have some brilliant songs, songs that are enjoyable and are really good when hearing live. Well the band have just released debut album Home Cinema.

Charlie who is the vocalist of the band contributed by taking part in the next installment of 10 questions:

Q 01. What was your first musical instrument and where did you get it?

It was a keyboard (a Yamaha PSR320), and it was a ninth birthday present. It set me up pretty young as a synth obsessive

Q 02. What was your favourite gig you have headlined or supported at?

We supported a band called the RGBs, we were all completely dead since it was the last date of a tour, but we had an amazing audience. Despite hitting myself in the face with the microphone and bleeding everywhere, it was brilliant.

Q 03. If you were to collaborate with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?

Maxxi Jazz from Faithless, he’s one of my favourite lyricists and such a distinctive style

Q 04. Favourite song to sing live and why?

Tale from the Other Side of Town is my all round favourite. Its fun to sing live, and I love the keyboard line

Q 05. Favourite music venue and why?

Liverpool Academy 2. The sound is always perfect, the stage is great to jump about on and audience is always amazing. RIP London Astoria

Q 06. Where do you get your inspiration from when writing songs?

We all contribute to the songs, and the wide range range of music we listen is what inspires what (i hope) is an original style. None of us are ashamed to take influence from both The Spice Girls and At the Drive-In…

Q 07. Describe your music in 3 words?

Energetic, Electronic, Infectious.

Q 08. What tips do you offer to any one wanting to become a singer or start a band?

Regardless of whether anyone discourages you, go for it, but remember that you can always improve, so the more work you put in, the better you get.

Q 09. Who is your favourite singer or band at the moment?

At the moment, Placebo, since we saw them play at Shepherds Bush a little while ago. Brian Molko is in an inspirational frontman and I’m really looking forward to their album

Q 10. Goals for the year?

Get the album and our live show out to as many people as we possibly can. Maybe a christmas number one 😀
