The Cheshire based four-piece consists of Mike (Vocals/Guitar), the brothers: Alex (Vocals/Bass) and Ash (Vocals/Drums), and Matt (Vocals/Guitar). Mike, Alex, and Ash had been close friends for years, making music together in an old bust up church they converted in to the LMD head quarters, eventually drafting in Matt ‘The Glasses’ Martin from the nearby town of Stoke-on-Trent to finalise the LMD army. These tunnel-visioned troopers have spent the last two years breaking their backs and their bank balances out on the road, developing their own sound like a rubber ball bouncing between rock, punk and beats, and building a well deserved reputation as a hard-working band.
After having seen the band play at The Purple Turtle and liking the music that they performed. I was pleased that Mike found the time to contribute to this feature:
Q 01. What was your first musical instrument and where did you get it?
It was a Cornet…I was about 8 years old, they were auditioning for a brass band at my school & i got chosen. I picked it up really quickly, I think i can still remember the national anthem.
Q 02. What was your favourite gig you have headlined or supported at?
That would have to be when we headlined a festival close to home called the Mez Fest, the place was full to capacity and we played the best set ever. Amazing feeling when the crowd enjoys a show as much as we do.
Q 03. If you were to collaborate with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?
Alive, I would love to do a song with Michael Jackson, that guy is just amazing. I can’t wait for the shows at the 02, I will be screaming like a 14 year old girl. Dead. Then Joe Strummer, massive inspiration for me.
Q 04. Favourite song to sing live and why?
I love singing youth, the lyrics mean a lot to me, and i sing lead, always try to put everything into that song.
Q 05. Favourite music venue and why?
Sugarmill in Stoke, Always have amazing shows there, all the staff are awesome, and we are well looked after. The kids that come out to the mill are amazing too.
Q 06. Where do you get your inspiration from when writing songs?
Life, I like to put myself in a situation, or imagine myself in someone elses position at a point in their life and think what I would do. Then I write down what ever comes to be, and make the best bits into a song.
Extraordinary Kid, was written like this, I don’t like to say what songs are about I think the listener should be able to interpret it how they like…,in a nut shell, its about trying when you think you can’t
Q 07. Describe your music in 3 words?
LESSONS IN LIFE
Q 08. What tips do you offer to any one wanting to become a singer or start a band?
Don’t give up, it has to be your life, you have to wake up in the morning & want it more than anything, more than going to work at an office to get by. The only people that don’t get anywhere with music are the people that give up.
Q 09. Who is your favourite singer or band at the moment?
I love this guy called Foy Vance, he is an irish guy, who plays with just an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal, he makes it sound like there is a full band behind him. Youtube him.
Q 10. Goals for the year?
Finally get our album out, that would be a winner.
