May saw the release of Roxy’s debut EP “Changing Things” which was only released as a 12″. Roxy did an intimate instore at Puregroove who dubbed her as UKs answer to Regina Spektor. Roxy did not dissapoint and I think the EP is brilliant and I cant wait to hear further songs and releases.
So I was delighted when Roxy spared some time to answer some questions:
Q 01. What was your first musical instrument and where did you get it?
I had an organ when I was 4 or 5 that was grey and very loud because it sucked and blew out air to work…
Q 02. What was your favourite gig you have headlined or supported at?
Probably supporting Yasmine Levy at the Union Chapel because that venue had such amazing sound..the walls are octagonal or more, so the sound bumped about and swirled like I’d not heard before..
Q 03. If you were to collaborate with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?
Mozart, to learn transcendent harmony and maybe Kurt Cobain or Janis Joplin to rock out.
Q 04. Favourite song to sing live and why?
At the moment I’m liking singing the hyper cover of Cyndi Lauper because it makes me happy..and all girl power!
Q 05. Favourite music venue and why?
Union chapel for reasons as above!
Q 06. Where do you get your inspiration from when writing songs?
Q 07. Describe your music in 3 words?
working out some riddles, bubbly, happy…
Q 08. What tips do you offer to any one wanting to become a singer or start a band?
Hang out with people who can play music well…and keep going…
Q 09. Who is your favourite singer or band at the moment?
not favourtie as in like, but favourite because slightly woed and disturbed by Lady Gaga’s self conscious ‘playing with’ ‘pop’…
Q 10. Goals for the year?
To play more, read more, write more, listen more, experiment more and push boundaries more…
The EP Changing Things can be found in any good record store
